The dehesas are integrated ecosystems of grassland and light growth of Mediterranean cork and evergreen oak. During the montanera, a period of intense feeding, Iberian pigs harness the natural resources of the dehesas, feeding on the grass and acorns until their time to be slaughtered. The perfect combination of a unique feeding and free range system makes it possible to accumulate adipose tissue, or fat, under the skin which over the course of time seeps into the surrounding muscle fibres. This is the origin of the light streaks of fat which give cured Valturra products its pleasant colour and juiciness.
Our Iberian Pigs are reared in the pasturelands of the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula and we personally take care of them to procure quality products with a unique flavour and perfect consistency
